Reedley walked it off in dramatic fashion Thursday afternoon, edging Coalinga 5–4 in a back-and-forth Central Valley Conference softball matchup.
Coalinga (10-19, 2-7) came out aggressive, plating runs in each of the first two innings to take an early 2–0 lead. Bryton Loflin got things started in the first with an RBI double, and Ashley Rudziewicz followed in the second with a run-scoring single.
Reedley (6-22, 3-6) chipped away steadily. Mia Castillo put the Tigers on the board in the third with an RBI single, and Avana Urbieta tied the game in the fourth with a clutch double. Reedley then took advantage of Coalinga miscues, scoring unearned runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to build a 4–2 lead.
Despite being outhit for much of the game, Reedley capitalized on Coalinga's four defensive errors—proving to be the difference.
Coalinga refused to go quietly in the seventh. Loflin sparked a rally with a solo home run, her third hit of the day, cutting the deficit to one. Later in the inning, Maleah Duran Ojeda delivered a game-tying RBI double to even the score at 4–4.
But Reedley had the final answer.
In the bottom of the seventh, Castillo singled to ignite the offense, and Aubryelle Agular followed with a walk-off RBI double, scoring Castillo and sealing the 5–4 victory.
Loflin led Coalinga at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run, and two RBIs. Duran Ojeda added a hit, two walks, and the key late RBI. Rudziewicz reached base four times with two hits and two walks.
For Reedley, Castillo turned in a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and scoring the game-winning run. Agular contributed both in the circle and at the plate, tossing six innings before delivering the decisive hit in the seventh. Urbieta also had a strong day, finishing with two hits and an RBI.
Genesis Barrera went the distance for Coalinga, allowing five runs—only two earned—on nine hits while striking out two.
In a game defined by resilience and timely hitting, Reedley's ability to capitalize on opportunities ultimately lifted them to a hard-fought conference win.
