Monterey Peninsula and Reedley College traded punches in a tightly contested two-game intercollegiate baseball set in early February, with each team defending its home field and both games decided by timely hitting and strong pitching.

Monterey Peninsula opened the series with a 4–0 shutout, riding dominant pitching and a pair of long balls to blank Reedley.
The Lobos struck first in the opening inning when Jaxon Fox reached on a Reedley error, allowing JJ Sanchez to score the game's first run. Fox continued to be the sparkplug offensively, blasting a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it 2–0.
Monterey Peninsula added insurance in the fifth when Sanchez drove in Jake Yeater on a groundout, and Ethan Jackson put the finishing touch on the night with a solo home run in the eighth.
On the mound, Fabio Bundi was very strong, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just five hits and striking out 10. Robbie Lardner and Ryan Campbell combined to close out the shutout, as Reedley was limited to seven hits and struck out 12 times. Reece Van Allen took the loss for Reedley despite a solid outing, allowing three runs (two earned) over 6.2 innings.

Two days later, the teams delivered a classic, with Reedley walking off Monterey Peninsula 3–2 in the bottom of the ninth.
Reedley opened the scoring in the third inning when Micah Raygoza doubled home Tyler Tuckness. Monterey Peninsula answered in the fourth on an RBI double by Ethan Jackson and took a 2–1 lead in the sixth when Carlos Cruz singled home Jaxon Fox.
That slim advantage held until the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Raygoza came through again, lacing a game-tying RBI double to score Mark-Anthony Carroll. Moments later, Eli Garay delivered the decisive blow, singling to drive in Raygoza and send the home crowd into celebration.
Raygoza finished the night with two doubles and two RBIs to lead Reedley's offense. On the mound, Reedley pieced together a strong effort, highlighted by Case Anker's 5.1 innings of two-run ball and a scoreless ninth from Giovanni Groppetti, who earned the win.
Monterey Peninsula's pitching staff was sharp as well, holding Reedley in check for most of the game, but Ryan Campbell was tagged with the loss after surrendering the two runs in the ninth.
Series Summary
The split showcased how evenly matched the two programs are early in the season. Monterey Peninsula leaned on power and pitching in the opener, while Reedley responded with resilience and late-inning heroics in the finale, setting the tone for what looks to be an entertaining season ahead for both clubs.
Next Up for the Tigers
The Tigers play at home on Tuesday vs. Cuesta College at 2pm, and home again vs. Gavilan College at on Friday Feb. 13th at 2pm. In between those two home games, the Tigers travel to Sac City on Thursday to round out their non-conference games before starting Central Valley Conference play vs Coalinga College on Tuesday, Feb 17th at 2pm.
