Reedley Women’s Basketball Closes Three-Game Trip 3–0, Improves to 6–1. Faces Alan Hancock College on 11/25 @ 3pm

SAN DIEGO — Reedley College delivered an impressive three-game stretch at San Diego City College from Nov. 20–22, 2025, earning wins over Imperial Valley, San Diego City, and Southwestern. Behind dominant rebounding, balanced scoring, and the continued star-level play of sophomore Taylor Sutherland, the Tigers returned home riding a 6–1 start to the season.

Reedley 68, Imperial Valley 37 (Nov. 20)

Reedley opened the weekend with a commanding win over Imperial Valley, using a suffocating defensive performance that held the Arabs to just four fourth-quarter points.

The Tigers set the tone early with a 13–11 first-quarter edge before widening the gap to 32–20 at halftime. The second half belonged entirely to Reedley, who used depth, rebounding, and transition play to put the game out of reach.

Forward Rayonna Andrews controlled the interior, finishing with 17 rebounds to go along with 6 points, while teammate Chantel Rodriguez added 14 points and 14 boards, posting a crucial double-double.

Sutherland, Cortez, and Perez shared the scoring load:

  • Raquel Cortez – 16 pts (3 threes)

  • Taylor Sutherland – 14 pts, 10 reb.

  • Leila Perez – 12 pts off the bench (2 threes)

Reedley won the rebounding battle 62–40 and forced 30 turnovers, converting many into transition opportunities that broke the game wide open.

Reedley 83, San Diego City 66 (Nov. 21)

In their fastest-paced game of the trip, Reedley outshot and out-executed San Diego City to grab their fifth win of the season. After a slow opening frame, the Tigers erupted for 30 second-quarter points, turning a four-point deficit into a commanding 42–32 halftime lead.

Sutherland delivered one of the most dominant offensive performances in California this season, exploding for 39 points, 9 rebounds, 10 steals, and 3 assists on 14-for-27 shooting and five three-pointers. Her two-way mastery dictated the game and overwhelmed San Diego City's backcourt.

Reedley received additional support from:

  • Cortez – 16 pts, 6 ast, 4 threes

  • Andrews – 14 pts, 14 reb, 4 blk

  • Rombaoa – 6 pts, 3 ast

  • Perez – 5 pts off the bench

Despite San Diego City's strong frontcourt—led by Aamori Daniels (22 pts, 11 reb) and Dahlia Blake (18 pts, 19 reb)—Reedley won the key stretches. A 26-20 third quarter sealed control, and their ball pressure forced 24 turnovers, fueling a transition-heavy second half.

The Tigers shot 42.9% from three (12-for-28) in one of their best perimeter outings of the year.

Reedley 73, Southwestern 62 (Nov. 22)

Closing their three-day run with an early 11 a.m. tipoff, Reedley overcame a huge Southwestern third quarter and responded with a dominant fourth to lock down a 3–0 weekend.

Reedley jumped ahead 22–13 after one and led 32–22 at the break, but Southwestern caught fire after halftime, pouring in 28 third-quarter points behind the aggressive scoring of Aliyah Perry (20 pts, 11 reb) and Angelica McBride (13 pts).

Down 50–49 entering the fourth, Reedley flipped the script. The Tigers blitzed on both ends, winning the final quarter 24–12 by attacking the paint, converting free throws, and forcing turnovers.

Five Reedley players scored in double figures:

  • Cortez – 17 pts, 5 reb, 5 ast

  • Sutherland – 16 pts, 12 reb, 4 ast, 4 stl

  • Andrews – 15 pts, 13 reb

  • Rodriguez – 8 pts, 11 reb

  • Perez – 7 pts off bench

Reedley's 58–45 rebounding advantage and 18-for-24 free-throw shooting proved decisive. Their defensive adjustments held Southwestern to just 12 points in the final 10 minutes.

Weekend Summary: A Statement Stretch for the Tigers

Reedley's sweep showcased three defining strengths of their 6–1 start:

1. Dominant rebounding

Across the three games, Reedley posted rebounding totals of 62, 37, and 58, consistently controlling the glass thanks to Andrews, Sutherland, and Rodriguez.

2. A rising star in Taylor Sutherland

Sutherland averaged:
23.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.7 steals, 3.3 assists
including the 39-point explosion vs. San Diego City.

3. Improved depth and perimeter balance

Cortez and Perez combined for 16 made threes over the three-game slate, providing a critical outside threat that opened the floor for Reedley's frontcourt.
