Women's Soccer Off to Best Start - Enters CVC Play at 5-1

Reedley Dominates Cabrillo with a 2-0 Victory on the Road

September 12, 2025 – Cabrillo College

The Reedley College women's soccer team showcased a strong performance in their away match against Cabrillo College, securing a solid 2-0 victory. From the opening whistle, Reedley asserted control and maintained pressure, ultimately earning all three points on the road. This road trip wraps up their non-conference play at 5-1, which is the best start in program history for the Tigers.

First Half Firepower

Reedley wasted little time finding the back of the net, with junior forward Jessica Batres scoring twice in the first 12 minutes. The first goal came just six minutes into the match, assisted by forward Nevaeh Moncada, setting the tone early. Batres struck again at the 12-minute mark off a feed from midfielder Andrea Sandoval to give the Tigers a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Despite Cabrillo's efforts to respond, Reedley's defense stood firm throughout the half. Goalkeeper Briar Estes kept a clean sheet in the first 45 minutes, turning away all two shots on goal.

Strong Defensive Effort

Reedley's defensive line, anchored by players like defender Syrrai Hurd and midfielder Jazmine Castaneda, limited Cabrillo's offensive opportunities. Cabrillo managed just five shots on goal the entire match, none of which could penetrate Reedley's back line. Reedley's second goalkeeper, Jasmine Lupian, entered for the second half and continued the shutout with three saves, preserving the clean sheet through 90 minutes.

Key Contributors

  • Jessica Batres: Two goals on two shots on goal, a clinical finisher who made the difference early.

  • Nevaeh Moncada & Andrea Sandoval: Each credited with a key assist in setting up the goals. Both also contributed with shots on target.

  • Defense & Goalkeepers: Together, the defensive unit limited Cabrillo's chances, with both goalkeepers combining for five saves and zero goals allowed.

Discipline and Play

While Reedley maintained control, the match saw a handful of yellow cards for the Tigers, with four players — Syrrai Hurd, Jazmine Castaneda, Nevaeh Moncada, and Paola Segura — receiving cautions. However, these did not impact the team's composure or ability to close out the match.
